Bio-security at Mountain Star Stable
Protecting the health of your horse and other horses at Mountain Star is of upmost importance. We are implementing biosecurity measures to ensure infectious disease agents are not introduced or spread at our shows, clinics or events.
Note all horses and any livestock that enter the grounds will be subject to examination.
Such examinations are to determine if the animal(s) is/are, has/have been infected/exposed, or are likely to be infected with, an infectious or contagious disease. If after such examination, Mountain Star management believes the health condition of an animal will place other animals at risk, said animal may quarantined and/or, if necessary, require removement of the animal(s) from Mountain Star Stable’s premises.
All participants must agree to fully cooperate with Mountain Star management and abide by their decisions/instructions. Failure to comply shall be grounds for immediate expulsion.
The equine health entry requirements include:
a. Horses displaying obvious signs of clinical disease, such as fever, abnormal nasal discharge, consistent frequent coughing, neurologic signs of ataxia or significant hind limb weakness are not permitted to enter the event grounds.
b. No Fever Policy:
i. Each horse entering Mountain Star Stable property must have recorded/documented a body temperature
of less than 39°C (102°F) for the 3 days before arrival at Mountain Star Stable .
ii. In order to obtain your horse’s number, you will be required to provide the show office with your horse’s temperature the time of arrival at Mountain Star Stable and all horses will be subject to periodic inspection during the show.
iii. Horse owner/custodians will monitor and inform the show office the body temperature of their horse(s) every 8 hrs during their time at Mountain Star Stable.
c. Proof of immunizations (specifically rabies, tetanus, EEE, influenza, rhinopneumonitis (ie. Equine herpesvirus) and strangles within last 12 months required. Coggins is optional) will be required at the time of submitting your entry.
d. No-fever form:
i. Horse owner/custodians must sign a health statement verifying that the horse(s) has/have been
healthy with no sign of infectious disease for the preceding three (3) days and a body temperature below 39°C
ii. Horse owner/custodians must provide event officials with the address of the premises where each horse was located immediately before arrival at Mountain Star Stable and the address of the intended premises of destination for each horse following departure from Mountain Star Stable.
In addition to the above entry requirement, we ask for your cooperation with the following biosecurity measures:
● Do not submerge the end of water hoses in water buckets
● Do not allow horses to drink directly from the water hose
● Avoid tying horses to fences or gates near the competition area
● Immediately report any sick horse(s) to show management
We appreciate your effort and cooperation to maintain biosecurity and the health of horses at Mountain Star Stable events.
